About Massage
The field of body work is continuously evolving, yet much of what we practice
goes back thousands of years. Holistic and alternative medicine are becoming
more main-stream, making massage a more widely accepted and utilized practice.
Practitioners are finding new ways to use techniques and to combine philosophies
and modalities every day. We have opened our minds to find the best ways to
suit our client's needs.
People are working harder, longer hours and sitting in chairs
for hours on end. Computer work is especially rough on a body. We are all feeling
more stress in our daily lives - it seems to have become the norm in our society.
How we deal with stress can have a major impact on the quality of our lives
as well as the lives of those around us. Relaxation is not an extravagance for
the rich, it's a necessity in everyone's life.
Massage can be defined as:
The systematic manipulation of soft tissue, such as skin and muscle via kneading,
percussion, stretching and pressure.

What can you expect at your session?
If you are a new client, the first thing we do when we meet for your scheduled
appointment is fill out your client information form. You provide contact information
and a brief medical history. Please allow some extra time in your schedule to
complete the paper work and get acquainted (approximately 15-30 minutes in addition
to your scheduled time period) so that you do not have to rush afterward. You'll
want to enjoy the benefits of your massage.
We'll go through the procedure of receiving a massage and you will have the
opportunity to ask any questions or voice any concerns. Now is a perfect time
to ask, however you have the freedom - and are encouraged - to ask questions
at any time during your session and to stop the session for any reason if you
feel uncomfortable. Communication between the client and the therapist benefits
both. The goal is to help you feel better - your well being is the primary concern.
We'll always discuss how you are feeling and what you hope to get out of your
session.
Any information that you provide either verbally or in writing will remain
confidential.

- Helps your body's tissues remain plump so they are less likely to become
adhered.
- Prolongs the positive effects of your massage.
- Helps your muscles release during a massage.
- Lubricates your joints.
- Stretch Regularly
- Regular stretching helps your muscles stay flexible.

are attached.

- Decreases the pull of taut muscles, which can contribute to postural
distortions.
- Tune-in to your body
When you are in tune with your body, you can feel when things begin to get
out of whack. You can take measures to fix things before they become serious.
You can do this on your own by stretching or by seeking the help of a professional.
Wake up with a stiff neck? Work it out or see your massage therapist. Let
that stiff neck go and it may end up affecting your ability to hold a pencil.
- Ergonomics at the workplace
- Work facing your computer - avoid having to look to one side or the
other
- Your chair height should permit you to sit with relaxed shoulders and
have a right angle bend in your arms when they are positioned to work
at a keyboard or mouse
- When working the mouse/keyboard, your wrists should be straight, forearms
parallel to the desk, shoulders relaxed - not raised or hunched
- Be tuned-in to your body and consciously push your shoulders back to
avoid rounding them
- Self-massage
- Heat applications
- Epsom salt baths and compresses
- When you are stiff and sore from over-exertion, don't favor the affected
